Submission Grappling vs. Classical Ju-jutsu

I've just read a very interesting article by Stephan Kesting and Alexander Kask

It is a study of two different approaches to combative grappling: Traditional Ju-Jutsu and submission grappling.

There is a lot of benefit in learning for both, and as a practcioner of traditional Ju Jutsu and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I totally agree with that article, exept for the Ju-jutsu/Submission Grappling leglock and all the over Techniques shown in the article, because in my traditional Ju Jutsu style, we use to do the same variations in the technique as in brazilian Ju Jutsu.

And for the Kata practice also, I was not a fan, and I use to disapear when it was time for the belt test...

Actually, after 3 years of intensive training in Ju Jutsu, I am still yellow belt while most of my partners became black belt.

The differences between Submission Grappling and classical Ju-jutsu can be divided into several categories:

1. differences in strategy,
2. differences in techniques,
3. differences in training methods.

Read this enlighting grappling article which was originally Published in Black Belt Magazine (May 2005 Issue. It is a must read for any martial artist.
