knife fighting techniques

knife attack picture
I was just reading some threads on the selfdefense.com forum, and I found that knife fighting techniques:

One man against a knife attack. I do not like that technique, and I think that the man who is demonstrating, will never do thatin a real situation.

for me, I will not.

WARNING: The first and best option against knife attack is to let the man there, and run...

You will face that man and his knife, only if you don't have the choice, or someone is with you, and you can't run and let him/her die...

However, in this case, use your environment first, you do not want to be in an inferior position: Hands against knife is an inferior position.

You want to use anything near you that can help you to get rid of that maniac.

See the knife fighting techniques, and feel free to leave your comments.

Well, I have been learning pencak silat for almost 9 years (Java and Betawi style). And I think your opinion to choose to escape from the knife attacker is the most logical thing for unexperienced fighters. Even when you are experienced one, you should calculate the probability of result prior to decide to fight against the knife/weapon attacker. When you are trained hard and continously trained the realistic situation you will learn to anticipate this. It is not a 3months-duration package of training, it might takes for years to mastering the technique and to have them into our reflects.
In pencak silat it is often to use the first strike as a bait, to manage the opponent to react and move on desired way, which is strongly anticipated. It is a trap. So I suggest when you decide to fight against the knife/weapon attacker let him "dance" then you know his pattern for 3 or 4 movements then you could anticipate the attack. Once again, as applied on the other martial art, it depends on how realistic is your excercise.
